"Pogen" Ginger Snaps
Pogen Ginger Snaps were cookies I had as a kid. I don't think the Pogen brand exists at all anymore and I have no idea where I got this recipe - but my original hand written version is about 30 years old.
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2-1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
INSTRUCTION
- Preheat oven to 350F
- Cream the first five ingredients (butter to egg) until light
- Mix the remaining [dry] ingredients together and then combine them with the wet.
- Form balls of about a tablespoon of dough. Press each ball onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
